AR app

nOaks, or Infinite Oaks, is an augmented reality application to imagine a reintroduction of native cross timber ecology to central Oklahoma. The cross timbers are a mosaic of great plains savannah and eastern woodlands extending from southern Kansas through the middle of Texas. The project was created for Oklahoma Contemporary’s Studio-in-Place digital residency program in June 2020. The app uses GPS coordinates to generate AR "portals" at secret locations across the OKC metro area. Once you reach the portal you enter the virtual biome. The work aims to spark contemplation and discussion around issues of land use and the power of technology, by juxtaposing imaginary virtual wildness against real public spaces through the medium of the smart phone. More information about the project, process, and residency can be found here: https://oklahomacontemporary.org/new-light/2020/06/infinite-origins-infinite-futures
